In the live shows there are actual musicians on stage. The composers, lyric writers and of course the people making the animations for the live shows. There is also a wide variety of music genres.Īnd who cares if the "singers" aren't real? The people behind it are still real. Since it's practically a tool anyone can use there are lots of good songs - and also lots of bad ones. Of course everyone has their personal tastes.Īlso the "it used to be relevant" fraction: The video here with 16.000.000 views suggests otherwise. Kinda strange if you remember which website you are on. Thats the same argument as people who say they don't like anime because it is not with real actors. My god the amount of people with a "it's not real i don't like it" attitude here is astonishing. Now the energy is elsewhere, and Vocaloid is kind of a has-been phenomenon, but worth paying tribute to, and not just in Japan. and it kind of did, with all the big producers infiltrating anison and the mainstream. The Vocaloid/doujin music scene had so much momentum that it could have taken over Japanese pop music if it wasn't seen as being 'just for nerds'. Maybe Vocaloids wouldn't have been relevant back then though if it wasn't for the designs. They're pretty versatile, compared to 10 years ago after Miku was launched. Then of course, most people just make generic pop songs for Vocaloid, but there's tons of good songs, there's a bunch of great musicians who've come out of the Vocaloid production scene, like Kenshi Yonezu, ryo, and kz, and some utaite are awesome, like Valshe, Hanatan, and I agree, I think Vocaloids might have been more relevant now if it wasn't for the moe character designs. For one, there's the playing around with the artificial voice that you see in Namie Amuro's "B Who I Want 2 B" w/Miku, or DennokoP's experimental Vocaloid Dystopia. But there's some unquestionably cool stuff about them, and I'm glad I used to be into Vocaloid songs. Vocaloid is just an instrument, however adorable the personalities created around each voice are (I like them too!).
